Doors and Windows - Aluminum screen windows not sliding freely...

:wall: My house is older and has aluminum windows, which have the outer screen window that slides up and down, in the aluminum track. Most of them are so hard to slide open and closed, I can hardly ever open my windows when it's nice out.

I cannot afford window replacements, so I would like some solutions as to what I can put in the side tracks that will free up the windows. I've tried WD-40, didn't work, and 3-in-one lubricating oil. The oil worked AFTER I was barely able to budge the window up, then squirted it in the tracks, then barely budged it up and down again. But by the next time I tried to open it, it again would barely budge.

The tracks and window don't appear to be dirty or obstructed in any way...does someone have some ideas that might work on a continual basis?

Welcome to the forums! Do you notice any places where there may be bends in the frame, say from lawn mower throwing rocks, etc? If lubricating the slide area didn't help, try white lube. WD40 as well as penetrating oils will dissipate after a while, but white lube will remain. It is the same stuff car door hinges are lubricated with.

As far as I can tell there are no damaged areas. Can the white lube be found at most hardware stores?

Probably, but for sure auto parts houses sell it. You should be able to find it in small squeezable tubes and in spray form. I don't particularly like the spray, especially in cold weather. It doesn't seem to coat as well, since it has a propellant in it.

Candle wax works sometimes (just rub a solid candle over the track)
