hi,

the lights on my bedroom ceiling fan just stopped working properly. They will not come on unless the fan speed is up to high. I only use a double slider wall switch and never actually pull any of the strings on the fan. When I slide the light switch up to turn them on they dont work unless the fan slider is pushed all the way up also. It worked just fine a few days ago so I figured a new wall switch was the problem, but the same thing happens after being replaced. I then took the lights off the fan and was surprised to see all the wires connected in one circuit to a capacitor box which I assume only controls the fans speed. Needless to say a am completely comfused at this point. Help!

thanks

Someone has wired the light switch to the load side of the fan switch. When the switch to the fan is reduced, the voltage to the lights is subsequently reduced. I would look into dedicated switches, and not rheostats for this application.
