My central air/heating unit has begun to make a loud squeaking noise at intermittent times during the day when the heater comes on. Is there anything that I can check to see if I can fix this problem or should I call a professional? I rent and my landlord is not very quick or reliable so I want to try to keep my cost down because I doubt he will reimburse me unless he agrees that the repair was warranted. Please help if you can.

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A BELT DRIVE BLOWER MOTER, IF IN FACT YOU DO THE BELT IS GLAZED AND PROBOBLY WARN FROM THE DRIVE AND LOAD PULLYS BEING SLIGHTLY OUT OF ALINGMENT AND OR THE TENSION IS LOOSE BUT TIGHT ENOUGH TO TURN AFTER YOU HERE THE SQUEEK.
VERY DANGEROUS MAKE SURE THE POWER IS TURNED OFF AT THE SIDE OF THE FURNACE AND AT THE BREEAKER PANAL AND IF A BRAKER PANAL DOES NOT EXIST IN YOUR DWELLING PULL THE FUSE OUT AND SHUT THE THERMOSTAT OF BEFORE YOU PULL THE DOOR OFF OF THE UNIT. THEN MAKE INSPECTIONS AND MAKE SURE THE DOOR IS BACK ON THE FURNACE BEFORE YOU TURN THE POWER BACK ON TO THE FURNACE.
RECOMEND CALLING A PROFESSIONAL AND AND HAVING THEM MEET YOUR LAND LORD AT THE TIME OF SERVICE AND DEALING WITH THE LAND LOARD DIRECT. JUST MAKE SURE BOTH PARTYS KNOW AHEAD OF TIME. . .
GOOD LUCK
