I am trying to replace a broke condenser fan motor.
my unit is runing off a dual capacitor that ran both the fan motor and compressor
the old fan has 3 wire black, red, brown i guess black, red is line voltage and brown goes to cap
the new one have 4 wire black, white, brown , brown stripe
how do i connect this? i have read on here that i connect blk, white to line voltage and brown, brown stripe to the new cap. then what do i with the old cap? dont i need it to run compressor? any help would be great, thanks

...you need a new capacitor just for the fan, look on the box or on the new motor and it should list the size that you need, i.e. 5mf, 7.5mf, 10mf or the like. Go back to where you got the motor and get one :)
More often than not the new off-the-shelf replacement motor doesn't use the same size capacitor as the original.
Leave the dual run capacitor where it is, the compressor still needs it!

How dose this thing know when to come on and off? the old cap have one wire from control board to cap and two going out, one to fan and other to compressor. The two brown wires of the new motor go to the two terminals of the new capacitor that came with the motor.
The Black and white off the new motor go to the two terminals on the contactor from where the wires that feed the compressor also come off.
Is interesting though, that you indicate the new motor having a black and a "white" wires. Make sure this new motor of yours is set for 240V. I say this b/c usually black & white are used for 120V. The nameplate on the motor will tell.
Do NOT disconnect the wires from the old capacitor that feed the compressor. Leave that capacitor in place.
A pic of the control area would go a great length in allowing us to help you better.
