does anyone know of a way to change the pull chain on a ceiling fan to a smooth cable that offers less resistance?
thank you----anthony

Well, when you get a replacement pull chain, it comes with the whole assembly. Just test them out in the store.

Two very important points: make sure you carefully record the existing connections before removing the existing pull chain switch, and be sure to get an exact replacement (there are many different kinds of these switches--if necessary, call the fan manufacturer for an exact replacement).

Hmm I think Anthony is looking for something that slides "smoothly" instead of "jerky" like some fan chains do.

I have seen some that have a string instead of a chain, but I don't think they'd work for a fan, they were for old lamps.

From experience in putting pull chain switches on garage fluorescent lights, the better quality switches are much smoother in operation...for an extra buck or so. Look for the ones with real brass chains and nuts instead of aluminum or steel...they seem to be smoother..at least of the ones I've seen.
