Last fall we did a kitchen remodel that included replacing one exterior wall, and adding a French door. The plan was to have the doors open out onto a deck. I had the contractors install the deck ledger when they were residing. I am now getting around to the deck (I had built temp. stairs for the winter). Now it occurs to us that we might like to have the deck extend 2' past the end of the house. The ledger only extends to the corner. Would it be allowed by code to do this? I would have to put a post/footing at the deck corner, but how would I hook this 2' beam extension onto the ledger?

Thanks,
~john
