We have an old sliding glass door that you would have to copmpletely remove the glass from the frame to get to the roller to change it and - of course - the roller is broken, it sounds like a machine gun when it is opened or closed, and it drops and goes up and down, too.... after giving up on fixing the roller we were going to buy a new sliding glass door in Home Depot for $300 but it measured 72" by 80" - at the very widest our opening is 71" - is this common? We called handymen to come fix it - from the paper - nobody wants the job! How would we replace a sliding glass door of those measurements...? Economically - or better yet, fix the roller...?
Thanks for any help you might offer...

Have you measured the ones at the orange big box? I'll bet you will find a different measurement for the rough opening. Don't always go by the advertising on the package. Replacing the roller won't bring the world to a standstill, just lift out the panel and replace it. I think you will be glad once you have saved $298.

if you know who made the door, you could probably e-mail/write/call and they probably have a repair kit for the rollers. i have replaced them on peachtree doors and it is not that hard. good luck.
