Carpentry and Woodworking - Please Help Me Decide!

Recently we were faced with a decision re: buying a mahogany set of furniture. The table was in reasonably nice shape, as was the china cabinet. There were chairs that needed gluing and I think this is something that my dad can help me to do. That being said, the buffet had veneer missing/damaged along the bottom edges on the two sides of the piece.

Can anyone tell me an approximate cost to fix the veneer in the above-mentioned areas that are about a business card size or less in two places? I don't dare attempt to fix these myself. I was told that the yard stick sized side pieces may be able to be heated removed and replaced with new pieces and stained to match the buffet.

Maria, welcome to the forums! It probably would help if you would take a couple of pictures of the damaged areas and post them on a site such as photobucket.com and either give us the urls or copy/paste the HTML code to a reply post. We'll be better able to help once we see it.

In general do you know if fixing of veneering is expensive in pieces from the 1940s?

That's why I would like to see the problem. Sometimes you can add veneer, and sometimes it is best to use a filler and stain. If you can get the pix, it would help.
