I have a Craftsman Eager-1 mower which I just put a new carburetor on, but it still won't start. It has not been used in a couple of years, but want to start using it again. How do I get it started?

Joe,

You need to check for spark across the spark plug when cranking. Do this by removing the spark plug then put it back into the wire, Hold the hex part of the plug against one of the head bolts away from the plug hole. Have someone pull the rope and see if there is a blue spark across the center of the plug.

If you have spark a compression test would be next in line.

If you don't have a compression tester check with your local auto parts chain stores, They may have one in their loan-a-tool program.

You should have at-least 60 lbs to have it run but the higher it is the better it will run, It's possible one of the valves formed surface rust and is no longer seating properly. Or dried carbon broke loose from the piston/head and got under a valve which is holding it open.

Good Luck
