I put a Briggs 16.5 engine (311777) with a dual stator
(691063) it has a red wire with diode and black wire.
I am trying to wire it so I can charge the battery on the JD stx38 wire harness. The JD had a 13 HP kolher.
The wiring harness has a plug with a yellow and red wireback to the ingition switch.
I need to know what wires to hook up?
It looks to me that it would be red to red and black to yellow?
I do not want to damage the tractor or the new engine.
Thanks
Dick

Do you have a voltmeter or test light? The wire that originally connected to the kohler is probably in a multi-connector with about 6 wires in it. If you still have the old Kohler, look at which wire connected to the center terminal on the rectifier, and this will the the wire used by the mower for charging. I suppose you could connect the red wire from the briggs to a wire on the deere that has 12 volts on it, preferrably only when the key is on, and it would charge.
