After deciding that geothermal heat pumps are just too expensive right now (and the increased electricity cost offsets too much of the savings), I'm adding insulation to my 1950's Cape Cod house. The estimate I have is for fiberglass batts around the perimeter of the house in the basement and attic crawl area, and blown-in fiberglass done from the outside of the house.
Are there any greener options for this kind of retrofit insulation, and where is a good source (web site, etc.) for locating a contractor to do it?

Foam:
Some blown-in foam installers I know have used a soy-based expansion foam to fill cavities in walls.
I don't know where an individual would get it... but a professional in your area might know or would be willing to do the job.
And the best place to start anything is with your local phone directory. Make calls and ask around very politely.
