We purchased a Fedders through-the-wall unit 4 years ago and it's been having recurrent noise problems since the beginning. Basically the fan blades are hitting, I am not sure what, I assumed the casing? The noise is intermittent, but when it happens, it's VERY loud. The unit does cool properly.
In the previous summers, we have always just called in the repair man because the unit was still under warranty. However we just learned to our dismay that Fedders went bankrupt and is no longer honoring warranties. We noticed that all the repair man every did was "adjust the fan motor bracket", at least that's what he wrote down on the receipts. We are wondering if this is something we can attempt ourselves.
Any help and suggestions greatly appreciated!
