I replaced a standard incandescent 40 watt in a single bulb fixture with a compact fluorescent equivalent. I have a critter I want to deter from visiting (all other methods have failed) and want to keep the bulb on all the time. The bulb is attached to the rafter in an open area.

The compact is much cooler but I'm concerned about leaving it on 100% of the time near the wood surface.

useally the CFL bulb is much cooler than 40 watt indentsent bulbs is and they last much longer as well.

you should not have much issue with leaveing on 24/7

as long you are more than few inches away from any wood surface.

And the critter will appreciate the light. Now he can read before he goes to bed...lol

Sorry, hope the light helps keep him out.

Find point of entry and seal to exclude the critter. What are signs and symptoms of critter. Scratching, walking, dragging sounds could indicate raccoons at night. Bats are active at night. They scratch like a mouse, but they also drag themselves along the attic floor. Squirrels sleep at night. Mice scratch at night. Any signs of droppings?

It is important to identify and eliminate and seal entries. Chewed wires can cause house fires. Animals carry mites and diseases.
