Can i put florescent light bulbs into a big globe type fixture that hangs from a ceiling fan? this is where it will not be out in the open.

Sure, no problem unless you have a dimmer. Most fluorescents will not work with a dimmer.

Many of them are also not supposed to be used in enclosed fixtures. I don't think there is any harm other than they might not last as long from the heat.
