Hi -
I'm new to the gardening design arena, so I wanted to see if anyone had good ideas for how to design the base of my BBQ. I bought a Weber grill, but due to space restrictions, I have to place it on my mulched garden. I was planning to place some stepping stones to lead to the BBQ, but I'm not sure what kind of base to build for underneach the BBQ. Should I buy extra stones to place underneath? Or, does anyone have another idea of what I should do. Right now, I've wheeled the grill onto the mulch.
All suggestions are welcomed and much appreciated!!!
Thanks,
Evan

Stepping stones placed down to the ground through the mulch would probably be solid enough. I'm not comfortable, however, with a grill surrounded by splintered wood.

What Mitch17 said.
I'm more uncomfortable with the possibility of wobbly stumbly stones underfoot, around a barbecue. You trip, what do you fall into? The scars may be more hideous than sexy.

well, since nothing is going to grow where you place the pavers anyway, I would do something like digging out a hole and placing an CMU (concrete building block) in the hole and setting the stepping stones on that. Make sure th eentire underside of the stepping stones are supported.
You can do something similar for the grill base.
This way, all is relatively easy to put back as it was if you move the grill elsewhere.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I like the idea of having concrete building blocks underneath and supporting the stepping stones. Regarding the grill, what are your thoughts around doing the same thing, but surrounding the grill area with stones (i.e. patio I think) so that it looks a little more finished off. So, I would dig a hole and place a few concrete blocks, then surround the top of the concrete blocks with stones in the shape of a rectangle. Then I could cover the concrete with something (any ideas?), followed by the grill on top. I'm really bad at this, but does that sound reasonable? Or, does anyone have a suggestion for how it could look nicer? This way, I could avoid the grill being surrounded by mulch and address the first person's hesitation.
Thanks again for everything so far!!
