Doors and Windows - Door foot board replacement....

We recently moved into an older house (circa 1920), and among the many minor repairs to be done, I am presently looking at the side doorway. The foot board, or the bottom board in the door way (exterior) needs to be replaced. The present one is rotted, cracked, hole-boared, etc....

Are there any considerations I should take to replace the board? i.e. The board is part of the door frame; I can just buy a new one; remove the door from the frame first, etc...

I'm thinking you mean the sill (or threshold in some areas).

On newer doors this is usually an aluminum piece with an adjustable insert to seal to the bottom or the door. Older ones are made of wood and have no adjustment. Normally maybe 8-10" deep and the width of the door, sometimes with "ears" on the sides.

I've done a few, years and years ago. And seen some recent replacements on shows like "House doctor" (is that still on?).

I'd suggest posting a couple of pics, then linking to them in your reply, so some of the Pro carpenters could give you the best advise. Definitly within the realm of DIY if you have some basic tools and skills.

Good 'ol wooden plank which is rotting away, splitting, etc. other than that, all I can tell is that it had been painted once, LONG ago.

I'll try to get some pictures up....if I can find the moving box that has the camera in it!
