I am looking for the right sprayer for multiple staining jobs this spring and summer (deck: solid stain, fence and wooden play/swing set: semi-transparent). I'm looking for a sprayer, and think I have two options.
1) I have a small air compressor I use for finish nailing around the house, it's a 6 gal pancake compressor rated 135 psi, 2.6 SCFM @ 90 psi. I am having a hard time telling if the various sprayer attachments I see in stores and on the internet will work with my compressor.
2) A typical Wagner "Power Painters" work for these jobs?
What's my best option? I have seen other tips on back brushing, etc. and I plan to do those, but really want to save time on this job with a sprayer. Any input on my options is appreciated. TIA.

Your compressor is too small to do any real spraying and cup guns and pressure pots are better for spraying automotive type finishes than they are other types of paint..... and aren't suitable for latex paints. Conventional spray also has more overspray than an airless or HVLP.
As a pro painter I wouldn't use a wagner but a pro type airless is probably too expensive for the average diyer - but they can be rented.
You might try asking inthe painting forum if any of the diyers [not pros :D] have any opinions on the wagner units.

Thanks for the sound advice. I was assuming my little compressor wasn't fit for the task.

Yeah, you snobby pros, always doing things the right way. ;) Thanks again.
