Hello Everyone-
Great site, lots of great info...bunch of smarty pants!:D
I would like to purchase and install a 32x15 window (or two) to be installed at a height of about 17-20feet, but it would not be a stationary closed window and would be required to open/close with ease.
My question is, where would I look to find a window which would be an easy open window. For instance, a window on say...a spring latch system of sorts, something that I could pull/tug on a chain or something like a chain to open, then tug again and it would spring closed? It would have to be some kind of opening/closing system that would not require a ladder everytime it's open/closed.
I have poked around online, but haven't been able to zone in on the correct thing that I am looking for. Lowes and HomeDepot don't seem to have what I am looking for.
Any ideas would be great.
Or any ideas of an alternative would also be great.
The reason for this window is I have a very high atrium sort of room in my home which has a 4 sided/8 window protruding cap atop of the roof. I would like to pop out one (or two) of these windows and replace it with a window I can open/close easily to let out the Tucson AZ heat during the summer months. I think this would be a great A/C energy saver if I can allow some of the dry hot air to escape my home instead of constantly trying to cool all of it with the A/C.
Thanks for any input.

And you don't want a "smarty pants" answer, I guess. Loewen makes a motorized option for their double hung windows that is actuated via a wall switch. May be worth a look-see. I am sure other manufacturers, such as JeldWen, Peachtree, and others will follow suit. Better than buying a spider monkey and training him to climb and open/close....there I go again. Let us know if we can help further.

What Chandler said for an operating mechanism. Powered is likely more reliable that purely mechanical. But your problem may be finding a window that narrow that opens.

I assume the the window is 32" W X 15" W. You could use a project in or hopper window with a spring latch that would be reached with a window pole. An awning window could be opened and closed with a chain operator. If looks and ease of operation are a concern, motorized is the way to go.

The 32" width wouldn't be an issue, but a quick look at a couple of manufacturers sits shows 17 1/2" as a std min height. These were awning windows. I know most of the companies make motorized operators for them. They also make the operators that you use a long handle and crank, like a skylight.
Awning might be the best choice, as even if they were left slightly open and it happened to rain, no big issue with water intrusion.
