Although this thread is similar to one just posted, I have a couple of additional questions that I'm looking fo suggestions.
I am trying to install curtain rods with decorative finials. One of the two windows has 2 1/4 inches of space between the edge of the trim and the wall. If I hang the rod so the finial is right against the wall, the installation of the rod would need to be approximately 1 inch within the edge of the trim. I am planning to mount the hardware on the wall, not the trim.
The only options I can think of are:
1. Mount the hardware where needed to use the finial (one inch into the into the trim) and mount the remaining hardware in the same location for all windows, although I would like to hang them past the trim.
2. Mount the hardware where I would like and simply use end caps on all rods.
3. Mount the hardware for the side close to the wall with an end cap, while still using the decorative finials on the remaining rod ends.
In addition, if I want to hang floor length cutains but the curtain hangs a couple of inches above the floor, would that be against interior design faux pas? If I use the next curtain length availble, the cutains would hang approximately 2 inches from the ceiling.
Please let me know what is the best option. If you have any other suggestions, I am open to them.
Please help.

Hi and welcome to the forum!
1. You don't want to do that because the molding on that side will show and will not look nice and in fact, the rod will look odd also.
2. You could do that, but it would be a shame not to be able to show off the finials. Unless you'll have a valance over it, I would not go with this option.
3. This would be your best option. Surprisingly, this looks just fine.

They should be no more than 1/4 to 1/2" off the floor, so it's not only a design faux pas, they'll look like high water pants! :D
You don't give specifics about your windows, but they can be mounted up as high as you like, even up to the ceiling. You could also have them hemmed to shorten.
