I have removed a fan in my son's bedroom and was ready to install a light fixture. I have to complete this before my baby wakes up!!

wiring in box: red (blue), black, and white.

Do I just tape off and cover the red wire that was attatched to the fans power, and attatch my black and neutral to the corresponding wires?

Also, the fixture came with a warning: "MIN 90degreeC supply conductors . Most dwellings built before 1985 have supply wire rated 60 degreeC, consult a qualified electrician to ensure correct branch circuit conductor." The fan was installed by the previous owners within the last 18 years. How do I know if I should proceed, or hire (groan) and electrician to come in and attach 2 wires??

Thank you so much for any help/advice you can give me. I'm new at wiring (obviously) .

connect white luminiare wire to white building wire now if you have only one wall switch it will be one unused hot wire in the box if that black wire is not gone anywhere else or hook up anywhere at all you can use that senice you mention red [bleu] wire there is that red and bleu wire are allready wirenutted to other place ??

let us know asap

There is only 1 wall switch. In the box, from the left there are 2 white wires tied together coming from 1 side, and 2 black wires tied together coming out the other side, with the red wire coming from the same place. Make sense?

Thank you

yeah i think i do get your picture pretty clear and is red wire is alone nothing else hook up to ??

the quickest way is if you have either neon light tester or non concat voltage tester that will verify the power there and the same time take a quick peek at the switch take the cover off but dont disconnect anywire at all you should able tell the wire[s] in the switch box

As I'm looking at the wall switch, the back left side has black and white wire, and the back right side has a black and red wire.

here what you have to do is kill the breaker to that switch circuit and loosen up the screws to the switch and you will see two bright brass colour screw note what colour the wire is there if black wire on one brass screw and second wire like red wire on second brass screw then that is the light switch hook up that the red wire where the luminiare will be hook up

let us know .

Well, the lights from the ceiling fan were controlled by the black wires, so my real question is "can I just cap off the red" ?? I thought this was going to be simple. (it never is) and, also my concern with the 90/60 degree conductor supply wire, as my house was built in the 50's. I'll go check my switch.

OK, red at top, black at bottom, and 2 white wires twisted together and capped.

ok then the red wire is used for switch useage that is the wire you hook up the black luminaire wire to red building wire and white wire to white building wire then you are set to go.

if any other issue please let us know

Thanks for all your help. It's up. It works. And, even better, my son can crawl into his bunk bed without hitting his head on the fixture!
