Do I have to use a damp/wet fan on my screen porch? I was told at the lighting store that the only difference is that the blades are made of plastic. There is only 88" between floor and ceiling. I want to install a low profile (flush mount) fan with a light kit.

Paddle fans for outdoor or damp location use are approved by UL for that application. The wiring, motor, etc. are weather proofed. I don't know if anyone has a ceiling hugger that meets specs.

This is somewhat subjective, and depends on your exact porch. You don't need a wet-location fan, but if the area is possibly subject to wind-driven rain, you should probably get a damp-location fan. The differences are more than just the blade material.
If you are confident that no moisture can reach the fan even in the worst storm, then you can install an ordinary indoor fan.
