I do need exterior tension rods (sizes 14", 22" and 72"), with which I would like to attach on the outside of our windows sun screens (90 UV protection) to help with the heat produced by our Arizona sun :) .
I saw rods at J.C.Penney, but they do not seem to come in the lengths I need; except for the 22" and 72" ones.
We do have an adobe-style home with kind of narrow window sills/frame so that the contractors said, that they would not be able to attache the sun screens with the common parts, which would allow me to remove the screens when washing the windows.
That's why I try to create sun screens by myself using tension rods.
For any ideas you might have I will be grateful. :)

Hello,
What sizes do you need? If these rods are too long, they could be easily shortened to the correct width by using a hack saw on one end. If they are too short, we will have to find another source.
Could you place a picture so we can see what the windows look like? You can upload a photo to a host site (Picasa if you have Google or photobucket works well.) Then put the link here.

Just a thought, tension rods for interior use will not have any resistance to rust. Even here in AZ things rust eventually....
Hmmm ...Connie? I thought you cut the center of tension rods? Well, thats the way I did the cheap shower curtain rods back in my younger, single days.

Thank you, Connie, very much for your speedy reply. You are correct, the length of the rods should not be a problem. One could take the rubber end pieces off, take off some inches with the hacksaw and then put the end pieces back on.
I was just concerned, as you, Gunguy 45, so kindly mentioned, that even here in AZ matters are rusting. But I think, if that should occurs, I just have to replace them, right? At least these tension rods do not cost too much.
Apparently, so far, no one has knowledge of 'non-rusting', exterior rods...... :(
I will upload some photo/s of the window/s, as soon as I have figured out how to do this with Google.
Thank you very much in the meantime, noviceaz

Have you considered having your windows tinted or hanging solar shades on the inside of the windows instead? I just question how this might look from the outside, if looks are of any importance to you. It may look a bit strange to have tension rods outside.
