My bathroom sink leaks where the handle connects to the stop valve of the cold water tap right at the start of the threads. How do I repair this?

Tighten the nut by turning clockwise. Not too tight - you're looking for 'securely snug' - not 'tight'.
If it continues to leak, replace the O-ring under the nut.
