I have just installed a 36000 btu package heatpump. I installed 10K heat strips. When the unit calls for heat, the compressor never tries to come on, only the heatstrips. An Ideas?

How do you have the low voltage wired up from the t-stat ? Y and "usually" O should be going to the outdoor section and W should be going to the heat strips. If there is a big differential in the set-point and space temp it may just be bringing on the strip heat untill it's satisfied but usually it will still run the heat pump also.
