I removed my old cast iron tub (60"X30"X14"), took down all shower walls to the studs, and ordered an exact replacement Kohler tub at Home Depot. Their quote (using their contractor) to bring it out to the house and connect the drain--which shouldn't need any modifications--was nearly $1,200. Unless I've missed something, I can't feature what should cost so much. The PU and delivery is $100, connecting the drain is $178...OK. But $900 more for...what? I realize it's a bear to carry a cast iron tub into the house, but other than grunt power, there's nothing more than setting it in place and securing a couple pipes. For $900, they should bring me Eliot Spitzer's girlfriend for an hour, shouldn't they?

$900 is only 12 minutes using the latest figures. Usually removing a cast iron tub requires busting it up. If you had enough room to remove it without, then getting the new one shouldn't be that rough. I'd get another estimate, if it would make you feel better, but they have alot of work ahead of them. Are they under the impression that the old tub is still in place? It could be a complete R&R cost.

No, I already removed the old tub..it's gone. I know what kind of work that is: a sledgehammer and a lot of debris. Now it's just a matter of placing the new tub (same footprint). As far as I can tell, the drain pipe and overflow pipe have to be reconnected, and it's done. No leveling or adjustments. They quote $100 to deliver it to the site and $178 to connect the drain. So the extra $900 is for...? I must be missing something.
