i have a kitchen table that slides open to allow a leaf to drop in. it is now sticking so much it is hard to even open

it has wooden rails with grooves in the center. a piece of metal or plastic rides inside the groove. anyone have a suggestion on how to "lubricate" this?

i was thinking graphite, maybe?

thank you!!!

Try bar of soap-got any Ivory.
If that doesn't work--try wd-40.
Keep at it until you find what will work.
Graphite is kinda dirty...................

Candle wax is also helpful to help wood slide. Bees wax works too.

Check your humidity level with hygrometer. High humidity will cause wood to expand. Humidity is best maintained between 35-55% year round where solid wood products are used. Use dehumidifier to reduce humidity.
