I have early 80's Rheem heat pump. Just put in new fan and capacitor on inside air handler about 2 months ago. Woke yesterday morning and the outside unit was running but the inside fan wasn't. Tried the switch in the on position but still will not run. Thought it might be the capacitor but even after spinning the squirrel cage the fan wouldn't come on. Any ideas???

does it hum?(get 240v)..........

Like said. You need to confirm voltage at the fan motor.

No Voltage, no hum.

If the outdoor unit runs, the control voltage is there. It could be the fan relay inside the air handler. It has the fan relay right on the circuit board. You should not have trouble finding one online and it shouldn't cost much. Just kill the power and get some numbers off of yours. You could disconnect it and look for signs of overheating or broken solder joint just to confirm that it is dead. You could also bypass it to get the blower to run constantly until you get a replacement. It would be better than having no heat until the new part arrives.

Have found voltage. The large red wire and large balck wire have 240 at the wire nuts inside capacitor box but still no fan.

Like said Check fan relay board , is relay good?? look at wire schematic there ,should be on blower door.

how would you bypass relay?

Basically, you would make the power supply wires go straight to the blower motor.

Put power straight to motor, still no fan

At the thermostat with fan switch on auto and the heat/AC switch in the off position, there is 120 on the black wire going to the fan speed wire. The red/orange wire is 0. with the heat switch on and fan switch to on the voltage is 120 on black and orange wires, but fan doesn't work.??? Bad fan motor????

If you want to nail this one in one more go-round heres what we should know. Motor voltage. Number of wires on the motor and their colors. Which ones are connected and to what. Incoming voltage at terminal block inside air handler. I think if we know those things, we should be able to point at a motor, fan relay, or problem outside the air handler.

There is Orange,Blue,Black,White,Yellow,Tan,and Tan/white coming from motor. Orange connected to orange from control board, Black connected to Black from relay. Tan and Tan/White to Capacitor. Checked voltage at terminal block and have 240. Ran jumper from terminal block to red and black wires from motor, still nothing.

Well, White is almost always part of the 240 circuit. Maybe you have some wiring wrong. The white is usually connected from the incoming power, right to the motor. The the black would energize high speed for cooling and the red wire would energize a lower speed for heating mode. Check and see where the white wire is connected and that should be the start of the solution.

My bad, the white and 2nd black comes from outside, and have never been hooked up. The wire schematic says orange is common and the other wires are for fan speeds.
