I recently had windows replaced and I believe our new windows may be aluminum?, I would like to hang blinds in some of the windows but not sure how to go about this using the installation brackets that come with the blinds, can I drill holes in this type of window casing without causing damage and how.

Going in to the metal frame of a window is common place in commercial settings and downtown lofts.. You should be able to treat this flat surface as any other..

your 2 concerns are making sure you don't hit any glass hiding behind the metal and getting through that frame without ruining your day..

I find your pretty safe as long as you stay a 1/2" away from the glazing and most of the time you can use a screws whose length don't need to exceed the depth of the glass..

as for tools and hardware you will need

a drill
1/4" hex drive drill bit
3/4" #6 hex head self drilling screws

the combination of the drill and the hex shaped bit w/ matching headed screws will make this as easy as going through pine..

load the screw in to the magnetized bit and hold the drill between your legs..

hold the bracket where you need it and shoot the screw through your bracket.. just make sure you don't over torque the screw since this will strip the hole and compromise your screws grab..

but please, if you have a digital camera please take a picture and post it here so we can make sure this is your best option..
