How do you know whether to use mastick or grout for bathrooom tile jobs?

The first thing you should do is to learn the necessary terms you'll need to know. Mastic is the glue course but grout is not a glue it is a joint filler.

You would use either mastic or thinset to install the tiles then later fill the joints between the tiles with grout.

You would not however want to use mastic in a tub or shower, and you can not use grout to install the tiles to the wall.:)
