Have older KDK cieling fans. Pull switches are finally going bad and can't find OEM. Replaced switch with a hunter 3speed switch and used a reostat wall switch. Now the fan operates only on high speed and the motor hums so loud you can't stand it. Any suggestions

Is the rheostat fan rated? If not, and probably is not, then you are only burning up your fan motor. Put it on a regular switch and see if the noise reduces. How do you have the 3 speed switch wired?
