I have installed "Old work" recessed lights and they look great, and function great. My concern is when I intalled them the instructions said they can not come in contact with insulation so i pulled the insulation about 3" away from the cans in the attic. The "old work" cans I purchased have slits in them to breath I guess which is allowing the hot attic air into the kitchen. Did I install these correctly? Is there a can i can install over the top of my cans to keep the attic air separate from the interior kitchen?

Thank you for any help.

I have never used a add-on over a recessed housing.

I would change the housing to ones that are IC (insulation rated) so that I could save on my heating and cooling costs. They are about the same cost as non-IC. Some housings like the Progress P87 series are dual rated depending on the trim selections.

I guess the heating part really wouldn't apply since you are in FL. Unless you count those really cold 70 degree days.:D
