Heat Pumps and Electric Heating - should I save my old compressor for a spare?

new r22 system will only have a 10yr warranty(not lifetime as it would with r410a goodman).
My old comp. while 19 yrs old, only has ~1/2 the usual run time because it is twice the min. size.
so i figure to stick it in the corner of the garage on the off chance i might need it, since r22 systems will likely be gone when i might need it. any storing tips?

NO!!! Non condesables, Wrong size, Why would you wont a 20 year old compressor! Matt I don't won't to discourage you from asking questions, but all of them are way out their in left field some where. Not one or two but all of them. What you are trying to do with your home is outside the box. I feel that most of the questions should be going to your HVAC company because they have working knowledge of your system. Good luck with your new system.

chat is what makes a chat room fun! I am hiring a new ac guy as the old guy messed up in 1989, and now recommened a HUGE AH, which according to u guys would not lower RH, that would be 2 mistakes, and his price is $1400 higher so he is fired.

So i'll throw out the old comp. no harm in throwing out free crazy ideas. i will keep all the electronics for spares,however.

Keep in mind tht enough of my crazy ideas worked, enabling me to retire by age 50.

I put a turbocharger on a 63 valient slant 6 in 1972 HAHA lots of naysayers on that too. Won lots of trophys at the drags.
