We've just bought a new (old) house and can't afford to remodel our 1948 kitchen right now but would love to redo our cabinets. They are the original white, metal cabinets and am looking for guidance as to what to do with them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Paint? Decoupage? Please help. Thanx!

Decorating ideas are a personal thing, but you can find spray paint is all colors of the rainbow at big box or paint stores. And you don't have to limit yourself to paint. There are wall papers that will work, wood laminates, etc., etc.

Painting would be the simpliest fix. Sand well and use an oil base enamel. Spray usually looks best but a good job can be had with a brush and/or roller.

btw - welcome to the forums!

Hi:
I, too have an exact issue as yours, .... what to do with my old-fashioned, ... almost 'antique' kitchen cabinets in today's standard, for which I posted it on the other board, 'Cabinet and ... ' last week.

In my case, I plan to stick with Contact paper with clear-coated and laminated Contact Paper that I found in the eBay site. It's not cheap, in comparison to 'painting' route, but I love to see 'as lively and pleasant' looking Cabinet Doors, since I love to be around at lot, not cooking but also other chores.

In my BIG suprise, Contact Paper with flowery-design, 8 rolls in all I found in the eBay site are an exact same Contact Papers I used about 13 - 15 years ago when they are one of most popular commodities in the household. For that project, however it takes quite a patient along with time, then I plan to work on before the weather getting hot, ... next month or so. I live in the East Coast.

Besides, I've looking for 'recessed hinges' that holding old Metal Cabinet doors. So far, have no luck, even though I went several local hardwares along with web-sites. Practically, it's 'wear & tear' due to its age, although all doors are still holding good, but it seems 'a matter of time.' I'm still keep looking for, or I might get some handy person fixed it.
