Hello I have an bath tub that has to be replace and I am looking to get a stand up shower and a general contractor
gave me a price of $1,480 which includes taking out the tube and putting in a stand up shower .Is this a high price because I went to lowes website and saw stand up shower kits for about $314.00 .My tub has to be taking out it has crack in the tub so I know the floor under neath the tub has to be fix ,but I was wondering is this a high price do this kind of work please someone let me know thanks .Oh yea I also he also said that with a glass door it's double the price which I find that a lie ..
Here's the one I am looking at at lowes site does this come with everything I would need to install it and how hard is it to take out the crack tub which still works and put in this stand up shower kit
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=145863-7-N13190A-38SW&lpage=none
Again the price he is charging me is $1,480 and that for to take out the tube, fix floor, and put in stand up shower
I am also loking him to do other work like put a drop ceiling in -fix floors-put up and install trailer underpinning fix electric switches stuff like that all those prices look great ,but not sure about the stand up shower
:alarm: :alarm: :wall: :wall: :wall:

No, the contractor (or yourself) can't just buy it and pop it in the old place. The contractor must pad the quote on this kind of job because there are so many potential complications. These jobs make me nervous, honestly, especially when the customer says things like, "How hard can it be?" It might go smoothly and I hope it does. :)
You could ask for a breakdown of the costs, or you could pay, first, only to have the tub removed. Then a better idea of what's involved.

Welcome to the forums! Following Kobuchi's lead, I'm not sure where you live, but I do this for a living, and there's no way I'd do it for less. There is too much to do....possible drain movement, supply line movement, fix floor to match remaining floor, possible wall tear out and repair, return trips to recoat sheetrock repairs. Glass doors for shower units DO cost about as much as the shower unit if purchased separately, so he wasn't off base too much, unless you choose a really low end door. Don't be angry at a fair price for good work.
