Marble problems:
1) I recently installed new marble countertops and shower.
The contractor has not been able to get it to shine in spots. He is looking for special sand paper to use but cannot fine it.
Where can I obtain the sand paper he needs?
2)Meanwhile I used vinigar and water to clean and made things look even worse.
How can I get the marble to shine like it should?

Is this a polished or honed?
Typically, you start sanding with a 60 grit and work your way up until it shines. The finish paper is usually a diamond dusted 1000+ grit.
You DO NOT use vinegar on Marble! Vinegar is a acid, and marble is made of calcium......you just etched the marble...

And it is the responsibility of the contractor to obtain what he needs to complete the job before he gets paid. You haven't paid him, I am sure of it. Like Mark said, determine what chemicals you use and their effects on things before you use them.

Marble should be cleaned, polished, and sealed with only products recommended for natural stone.
