Hello,
We recently bought a home which has a built-in media center in the family room. This occupies one entire wall area of the room. The shelves are all built-in, but its open and my 2yr old toddler loves to take things out of this area and play with them. We would like to cover this entire media center with glass doors, so we can see what's inside yet keeping the items away from the toddler's reach. Some of the shelves mainly have some small knick knacks that I've collected over the years from our visits to different places. I don't want to lose these because of the toddler. Can anyone tell me if I can get items to build a door ? If so, what items would I need and where can I find them? I have already been to HomeDepot and enquired and they were not much help. Any input would be much appreciated!

thanks,
howner.

Will the door wood parts be painted or stained? You will need enough 1x2's to build a face frame. Look at your kitchen cabinets. Do they have face frames? The doors would look like kitchen cabinet doors without the panel. The glass would replace the panel.
How much edge treatment do you want on the inside edge and outside edge of the door stiles and rails? The frames (stiles and rails)should be about 2 1/4 inches wide. The frames will need rabett joints on the inside edges to hold the glass.
If all of this seems too involved, search the web for locations which specialize in custom doors. There are several.

There are quite a few places that could make you some cabinet doors... Rockler might be a good site to check out to give you some ideas of what to look for as you measure and order. If nothing else it might help you plan what sort of doors you need. You can also talk to any glass shop if you'd like frameless glass doors with magnetic push-style catches.
