Birds are flying into our glass deck railings, many times they are killed. Are there known solutions? Would tinting the glass help? What about bird netting or screens? Are you aware of any sources that offer such netting or screens specifically for glass deck railings? Thanks!

The old solution of mounting one of those molded "owls" under the deck level (so it is out of sight). They seem to work, and keep the birds scared away. Now, if you are feeding the birds on deck mounted feeders, all bets are off. You will have created the problem, and they can't see the glass, even if it was tinted.

You know, that owl won't work long...I have one of those, and I have a molded eagle that screams (motion activated) and I have a metallic spinner...birds ignore everything after a short period of time.
You might try hanging some streamers (like windsocks) in front of the glass.

Flashing things apparently freak them out. I see a lot of pie plates and CDs hung in gardens. Eyesore to all.
A nicer solution might be draping some kind of netting over the rails, like real fishing net. The birds will come and go, but won't try flying "through" that.
