We have a 60s rambler that has a huge, outdated and ugly 3 sided fireplace right in the middle of the family room/kitchen. Can we remove it? If so, how? There is a fireplace that is also in the basement that is directly below this one as well.
Thanks for your help!

The fireplace in the basement probably sits below the one in the kitchen. The two flues for the fireplaces likely share the same chimney. If the fireplace is removed in the kitchen, what will support the chimney and flue? If the flue from the basement shares the same chimney, what will you do about that?
