I'm replacing a three way alcove fiberglass tub with integral skirt and tile flanges. The manufacturer says that stringers should put up on the studs to support the underside of the deck. My problem is that the underside is irregular because of the varying thickness of the fiberglass underneath the deck. Do I need the stringers? Should I put them up to support the lowest point? I appreciate any help. Thanks.

Hi fredo!

I've never installed one of these, so am not familiar with your question. (The only stringers I know are for stairs:) Keep checking back, for someone will undoubtedly have an answer for you.

integral skirt and tile flanges.

What are "tile flanges"?

Don't know that a "stringer" would be needed but a "ledger" may be. Is this to support the top edge of the tub on two or three sides?

the manufacturer calls them "stringers" but they're really like "ledgers". yes, they're meant to support the underside of the three sides of the tub that meet the walls.

Yes I would install a "ledger" to support what you can.

Some of those tubs should also be placed in a bed of fresh cement to support the bottom of the tub. Others have support pans.:D
