I live in an area with many cedar trees. How can I make cedar panels for my closet out of these trees? After the trees are cuts do they trees need to age for a certain amount of time?

Cut the trees and have the logs sawed into one inch thick boards. Store sawed boards in a dry, well ventilated area for a year. When storing, separate each layer with narrow strips of wood one inch thick to allow good air circulation. Be sure to store perfectly flat to keep the boards straight. You can cut drying time by having the lumber dried in a kiln. After drying, have lumber finished by planing and edging.

Hello, and welcome to the forums!

Ken gave you some great advice about how to have the trees cut into lumber, but I am curious about the phrase you used..."in our area".

Are these trees on your property? I mean, I may have a National Forest in my area, but I don't think it would be a good idea to go cut some trees:D

Ken gave great advice. I must say though, for about 1/10th the price and effort - you can pick up cedar panels at a lumberyard.....
