Gas and Oil Home Heating Furnaces - Trane XE 60 Motor

My furnace guy has just diagnosed my Trane XE60 as having a blower motor on the fritz (whining, trouble getting up to speed, etc.). He said they'd replace it for $290 total or I could do it if I get the part. It doesn't look too bad...I think.

The specs on the motor in the furnace now state it's a GE, 1375 rpm, 1/2 hp. He said the replacement part is a Dayton #3LU87G, 1075 rpm, 3/4 hp.

Why don't the specs match? Am I going to burn out the new Dayton?

I've questioned my furnace guy and he says the drop in rpm (20% decline) won't make that much of a difference. We live in Vermont and have a 1,650 square foot house. Is he correct?

The difference in cost between the GE 1375, 1/2 hp model and the cheaper Dayton lower rpm model is $150+!

YOu can change this out yourself. I'd take the motor out and
the capacitor and take it to a motor shop in your area, or to Grainger. They should have something that will match of what you got there.
