I bot a GE SMART SECURITY SYSTEM on ebay. It was advertised as a SIMON 3. According to the seller and the ge website, they may be the same. The paperwork and copyright dates are circa 1993/94.
My 1st question is are they the same, can i use SIMON 3components with the SMART SECURITY and vice-versa?
The 2nd question is what is a good 3rd party security co. for the system to comunicate to for notification of police/fire/emergency?
Thanks.

Long story short...the Smart system is the same as a Simon 3
EXCEPT for not being able to communicate with a monitoring company. It will call cell phones, work phones, etc...Just not a central station.

These panels were manufactured to enter the DIY market...All devices will work with it.

Contact the seller, you were mislead.

I do believe there was a kit to allow these to be monitored. Anyone know if they are still being made?

Yes, there is a conversion piece for these units...Looks like a door window sensor, plugs into the motherboard...
