Hey guys,

I posted this question some time ago and didn't receive much response. I'm looking to start the project shortly but still have questions.

I want to hang slate tile for the tub/shower enclosure. I know that when properly treated it can handle the water (i.e. seeing more and more slate patios). My question is regarding the weight and what to use to hang it. No doubt morter would be the compound of choice but do I require anything special on the wall, for example, chicken wire?

My plan is to hang one row at a time, leaving a few hours between for proper setting. Is there anything else a person should be concerned about? I've used ceramic many times so the basics are covered.

Thanks!

What do you have in mind for the substrate?

Depending on the substrate any thinset will hang slate directly on the substrate successfully. You can use spacers to stack the tiles and won't have any delays in stacking the tiles.:)

That's essentially what I was asking, in a round about way. As you can see my lack of knowledge in this area is shinning though!
