I made a big error in measurement for getting my convertible couch and loveseat into a new apt that I need to move into pronto for family and financial resons, I really don't want to have to store it (it's relatively new and in great condition) and don't want to sell it for the same reasons (plus I need a place to sleep!). The legs have no nails thru the bottom and the fabric is stapled on at the top. Someone suggested taking the staples out and detaching the legs but I have no idea what sort of remover one would use, how to reattached the fabric and/or the legs afterwards - basically I have no knowledge of home decor and repair and could really use some help!! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated - thank you!!!!

On some upholstered pieces legs have a large screw on top and are screwed into a t-nut on the sofa frame and can be unscrewed if necessary. On upholstered pieces where legs are part of the sofa frame, these legs can not be removed.

Have you tried removing the entry door, standing sofa on end, and hugging door frame with sofa as you turn it toward the interior? This is what the guys usually do when I relocate.

The above photo shows basic removable sofa legs. They are also available in more decorative designs such as bun feet and various turned designs.

It is likely that your sofa has removable legs that screw into t-nuts. Try giving them a turn.

Hmmm - good thought, but these legs are squarely situated in frame. I have taken pics of them which can be viewed here: http://home.earthlink.net/~agermain1/furnituredilemma/ I don't even know how to try to take off those bottom tacks or if I should even try!

The movers managed to yank most of the tag identifying the manufacturer but what I can read is Arlow Furniture, if that's any help to anyone. I tried Googling them with no success!

Thank you in advance!

If fabric surrounds the top of the legs, then the legs are part of the frame and can not be removed. If there is a break between legs and fabric, then they can be screwed out of t-nuts.
