Craftsman LT1000 riding mower will not move. All belts appear to be good. Mower will start and run and pto/blades run too but when put into a speed mower will not move. I was mowing last summer when the mower just coasted to a stop. The mower is not mine it's a friend, a friend who is not as a good friend as he was. I really need to get this mower fixed and back to him very soon. All the shops around here want an arm and leg just to look at it. Please help.

rearend has a sticker that says
PEERLESS model Spec Tecumseh
MST-206- 545C

Motor is a Craftsman 20hp twin Briggs and Stratton

yeah i did the best i could with that diagram but i didnt really help me. a guy from a small engine shop said something about a sheer pin inside the rearend

Some things to look for;
This unit has two idler pulleys on drive belt, one stationary and a moveable one that serves to tighten/loosen drive belt when brake/clutch operated. Check to make sure this idler, and associated spring, is tightening/loosening drive belt.
Unlikely, but make sure transaxle pulley is not loose on transaxle input shaft.
Will it not move in any gear ? including reverse ?
Our goal is to renew a friendship, right? :)

If you can't repair this--ask your local repair guy if you can make payments ( if that's ok w/ you ) if you want to save this friendship.
My relatives used to bring my tools back in a box & say
" you buy cheap tools " I don't have that problem anymore
because like electricity it has all gone to ground...........

I'm with J here, But....It will take this guy the rest of his life and more to find this so called "Sheer Pin"....:coffee:

so are you saying theres not a sheer pin or thats not the problem?

There is no part called a sheer pin in this transaxle.....

If you have checked EVERYTHING everyone has posted;

Belt
Trans pulley spinning shaft
Wheel to axle keys
Shift linkage (off ?)
Etc....

And still haven't found the problem and the trans makes no grinding noise while trying to move, About the only thing left is the shift keys #8 below.They could be broken.....
