I am getting conflicting advice from local flooring pros. Currently have 10 year old parquet glued to concrete slab. What is best method for installing new solid wood floor (3 1/2") over the parquet?

Hi Guy, Welcome to the DIY Forums!

You will not be able to nail it, for certainly you will not have enough "bite" for nails. What is the condition of your parquet floor?

The overall condition of the parquet is good. However, during upcoming kitchen renovation there will be some areas where parquet does not exist--i.e. under the kitchen island and cabinets.

Would a 1/4" overlay of plywood be enough for nailing? Can the solid hardwood be glued to the parquet?

No, you need at least 3/4 inch of plywood to nail. Why don't you visit this page:

The parquet has got to be removed.

For solid over concrete it is not just a cut and slap it on the concrete type of job. There is a lot more to it then that. It is not recommended to place solid wood over concrete with a a unpunctured moisture barrier.
