hello, new guy here with a problem thats got me stumped and i don't have a shop manual. i have a 17.5 hp single cylinder that came to me disassembled to rebuild. all went well until i tried to time it. if i align the timing marks on the crank and cam gear it won't crank over like it's out of time. i have offset the marks before and aft with no luck. can someone shed some light on this problem for me?:wall:

What is it doing that makes you think it's out of time with the marks aligned? Align the timing marks and the engine is in time. If it still won't start, it has to do with something else.

What did you set the valve lash at?
Model Type and Code numbers off of the engine would help.
