I have a Williams brand propane wall furnace that had a serious soot problem. I cleaned out about a quart of soot from the heat exchanger/flu. The burner wasn't too bad. I reassembled the unit and rechecked a few days later and had some white ash visible in the heat exchanger. WC at the tank was 11" and the control valve was 10"WC 1/2" below what it called for. Any ideas out there?

If you do not have a carbon monoxide detector, get one. Sooting is a symptom of poor or incomplete combustion in the propane heater. It is time to call a service technician. When it comes to household safety, it is important to have these appliances serviced annually.
