Hello, My name is Brenda. I have recently moved into our house that we built and I bought valances and drapes for our bedroom. My question is: I want to do an inside mount for the curtains, but the length of the curtains goes down to the baseboard. Would that look right if they are that long? I have never hung curtains before so any help would be greatly appreciated. Also what kind of hardware would I use for an inside mount? Thanks:coffee:

Inside mount of what, the window? The easiest solution is to purchase a double curtain rod. One rod will project farther than the other. Hang your curtains on the inside rod and the valance on the outside rod. You can move the brackets up or down to adjust the length of the curtains before you hang the rods.

Hi Brenda and welcome to the forum :D
A few issues to discuss first. Why are you hanging them inside? You may want to reconsider and hang them both outside using either a double rod as Connie suggested, or mount 2 rods, the one for the valance with a bigger projection.
If you still want to mount it inside, how wide is your window and are the curtains lightweight or sheers, or are they heavy? If they're sheers, you can just use a tension rod (if your window's not overly wide). If they're heavier, you would need a regular rod with inside mount brackets and you'd need to somehow add a center support or the rod will sag. I'm not sure where you can buy the inside mount brackets, maybe try a hardware store or do an online search.
The other issue is when you say it will come to the baseboard, do you mean molding or heater? If it's molding or hot water heat, they should go to the floor or 1/4" short of the floor or they'll look like high water pants.
If they're electric baseboard heat, then they need to be 10" away or they'll be a fire hazard and in this case you may be better off using blinds or shades or short, to the sill or apron, curtains, rather than long ones.

Hello, I am hanging them on the inside because I like the look of our trim and I don't want to cover it up. The curtains are not very heavy, but I would like to use something other than a tension rod. My curtains will go down to the end of the window sill instead of down to the baseboard. Thanks:)

I guess the valance threw us off. Where are you mounting the valance?
You'll have to look for those inside mount brackets (can also be called barrel brackets) to mount the rod then.

Thank you! The valance is just going to be in front of the curtains. They will both be mounted inside. I have seen the double curtains rods, but I wasn't sure if I could use those for an inside mount or not. I will be sure to look for those barrel brackets.

what kind of drape is it?
pinch pleat?
tab top?
rod pocket? if so, how wide is the pocket?
What kind of valance is it?
pleat? tab? rod pocket?
Also, something else confuses me.. You say inside mount but you talk about your drapes hanging past the window? does this mean your drapes aren't gonna be hanging straight down but dragging against your sill and down your wall?

Here is the website that I am ordering from: www.jcpenney.com and here is the catalog number: Catalog Number: RN722-0253D I am not very good at explaining so maybe it would be easier if you could see a picture of it. They are both rod pocket and I hang them on a 2 1/2 inch rod. The drapes would end at the bottom of the window trim.

I don't think that 2 1/2" rod you're looking at (is it the white one that's curved?) is going to work for an inside mount since there's no where to put it. You need a round rod, that's straight across that's about 3/4".

I've got to say curtains look really good using the 'inside-mount' method.

Thank you! It would be a shame to cover up the trim after all of the work we did on them.

I haven't found any rods yet, but I have an idea of what to look for now. Thanks for all of your help. I never knew there would be so many different ways to hang curtains.

I just found some wooden rods with barrel brackets and I'll post the link, so you can see what they look like. The wood ones are fairly new, but they also come in metal.

Brenda, if you have any carpenters or woodworkers in the family, they can probably make those for much less than $11.
Yes it would be a shame to cover up your wonderful moulding. If only we had trim on all of our windows, it would probably look much better.
Goodluck..
