Solid Hardwood, Engineered and Laminate Flooring - Gaps in wood floor

We just removed a wall in our house and there is a gap from room to room where the wall was in our hardwood floors. Well instead of filling in the gap with more wood running the same direction to create a separation in rooms we cut the gap 3 planks of wood wide and ran it the opposite direction. Except my husband cut the one end about a 1/4 of an inch wider than the rest (accidentally) How can we fill that in? Our couch will be covering it but still to hide it as much as we can, what can we do?:confused:

You can cut a thin piece to put in the gap. The piece may not be 1/4" all the way so you may have to angle the rip. Then you will want to glue this in and sand flush with the floor. No worries!

Borrow or even rent a hand plane for this. Begin with a filler piece ~6" too long at both ends. Creep up on the width - planing here and there - then finally cut to length however best fits the gap.
